Mr. Warren

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list the composition of the senior information technology strategy committee in his Department; and how many times in the past year its meetings have been attended by Ministers.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

The members of the senior level information technology steering committee for the Department of Transport are:

  • Deputy Secretary, Road Safety and Licensing, Principal Finance Officer (Chairman)
  • Under Secretary, Road and Vehicle Safety
  • Under Secretary, Freight
  • Under Secretary, Marine and Ports
  • Director of Administrative Resources
  • Director of Personnel Management and Training
  • Director of Driver and Vehicle Licensing
  • Director of Statistics
  • Director (Transport), West Midland Regional Office
  • Director, Drivers, Vehicles and Operators IT Directorate
  • Head of Business Efficiency Services
  • Director of Financial Management
  • Deputy Chief Highway Engineer
  • Assistant Director, TRRL
  • Head of IT strategic Planning Division
  • CCTA representative

None of its meetings over the past year has been attended by Ministers.

Mr. Warren

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how many of the staff in his Department at grades 1, 2 and 3 have attended courses or training on information technology awareness or management in the last 12 months.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

During the financial year 1987–88 one person at grade 2 and three people at grade 3 attended courses or training on information technology awareness or information technology management. In addition, three people at grade 3 attended management courses which had an information technology component.

Also, two of the people at grade 3 referred to by the Secretary of State for the Environment in his answer to my hon. Friend of 12 July have common service responsibilities covering this Department.
