HC Deb 21 July 1988 vol 137 c773W
Mr. Warren

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how many computer work stations there are in his Department; what is the ratio of work stations to civil servants; and how he expects this to change over the next five years.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

There are just over 4,000 work stations in the Department of Transport including terminals, microcomputers and word processors, giving a ratio of one work station to every 3.5 members of staff. It is not possible to give a figure for the overall increase planned over the next five years: this is dependent on the outcome of work currently in progress.
