HC Deb 21 July 1988 vol 137 c762W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

To ask the Lord President of the Council how many proposals or other documents declared by the Select Committee on European Legislation to be of sufficient legal or political importance to be reported to the House have not yet been debated; and if he will publish a table showing the dates on which the decisions were made by the Select Committee and the nature of the issues concerned.

Mr. Wakeham

Ninety-three documents recommended by the Select Committee on European Legislation for further consideration by the House have not yet been debated. Details have been placed in the Library of the House. Of these 93 documents, 38 are not at present under active consideration in the Community and 11 are awaiting further documents so that Parliament can have the opportunity to debate the up-to-date position. Of the remaining 44 documents several have been linked by the Select Committee and it is expected that, in accordance with the Committee's recommendations, these would require no more than 24 debates. Four of these debates, covering seven documents, have been arranged for next week.
