Mr. Dobson

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) what is the latest figure for estimated spending in 1988–89 by the Management and Personnel Office on(a) television advertising, (b) radio advertising, (c) newspaper advertising and (d) other promotional material;

(2) what is the latest figure for the number of staff presently employed in the press and public relations office of the Management and Personnel Office;

(3) what is the latest figure for the estimated expenditure by the Management and Personnel Office on press and public relations during 1988–89.

Nil. Under the provisions of the Transfer of Functions (Minister for the Civil Service and Treasury) Order 1987, which took effect on 25 December last year, the Management and Personnel Office ceased to exist as a Government Department; its work being divided between Her Majesty's Treasury and the newly created office of the Minister for the Civil Service.
