HC Deb 20 July 1988 vol 137 cc689-90W
94. Mr. Chapman

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will review his Department's relevant circulars to ensure they give specific and unambiguous guidance to local planning authorities about relevant criteria to be applied in determining planning applications.

Mr. Waldegrave

Our planning policy guidance (PPG) and minerals planning guidance (MPG) notes and circulars and other statements provide local planning authorities with extensive planning guidance which must be taken into account, where it is relevant, in determining planning applications

Since the circumstances of development proposals vary widely, this guidance must inevitably be general and will have to be applied appropriately in each case to which it is relevant.
