HC Deb 20 July 1988 vol 137 cc668-9W
Mr. Wigley

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services how many nurses entered into mental handicap nurse training for each of the past five years in each region in England.

Mr. Newton

[holding answer 14 July 1988]: Information supplied by the English National Board for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting for the years ended 31 March 1985, 1986 and 1987 is shown in the table. Information is not available prior to 1985.

The figures for 1986–87 relate to all entrants to training, including those undertaking training for a second qualification. Those for 1984–85 and 1985–86 related just to those entering training for their first basic nurse qualification. Therefore they are not comparable.

1The figures may differ slightly from those shown previously as some small corrections have been made.

2 The figures for 1986–87 are not comparable with those for 1984–85 and 1985–86. The 1986–87 figures relate to all entrants to training including those undertaking training for a second qualification. Those for earlier years relate just to those entering training for their first basic nurse qualification.
