HC Deb 19 July 1988 vol 137 c558W
Mr. Ashley

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make it his policy that disabled people will be able to work part-time for the duration of their period in the Employment Training Programme.

Mr. Nicholls

There will be opportunities for part-time training on employment training for people whose disabilities restrict their ability to train full time.

Mr. Ashley

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how the new employment training programme will(a) provide assistance to people who become disabled whilst in employment who may subsequently require retraining with their existing employer and (b) assist employers who wish to retain staff who become disabled.

Mr. Nicholls

Employment training is designed to help longer-term unemployed people, including those with disabilities and is not open to those in employment. However, help continues to be available to employees, through the disablement advisory service and the Training Commission's employment rehabilitation service.
