HC Deb 19 July 1988 vol 137 cc557-8W
Mr. Warren

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list the composition of the senior information technology strategy committee in his Department; and how many times in the past year its meetings have been attended by Ministers.

Mr. Lee

The constituent parts of the employment department group with significant expenditure on information technology each have their own steering committee. The composition of each information technology committee is broadly similar being chaired at director, director general or chief executive level and comprising senior officials from information technology, financial resources, personnel and planning divisions. Major departmental users of computing and the Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency ae also represented. Ministers would not normally attend meetings of these committees and none has done so in the past year. However, where appropriate the findings of these committees are referred to Ministers.

Mr. Warren

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many of the staff in his Department at grades 1, 2 and 3 have attended courses or training on information technology awareness or management in the last 12 months.

Mr. Lee

Fifteen staff in the Department of Employment group at grades 1, 2 and 3 have attended courses or training on information technology awareness or management in the last 12 months. This amounts to almost half of all staff in those grades.
