HC Deb 19 July 1988 vol 137 cc537-8W
20. Mr. Patrick Thompson

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement about the proposed curriculum to be followed by city technology colleges.

Mrs. Rumbold

The Education Reform Bill provides that a CTC should have a broad curriculum with an emphasis on science and technology. It is intended that all the core and foundation subjects of the national curriculum shall be taught to all pupils in years 1 to 5, and that the pupils' progress should be measured against the proposed national attainment targets using national arrangements assessment. All pupils will be prepared for GCSE qualifications and for other recognised examinations. In addition CTCs will comply with general statutory requirements for the teaching of religious education. A curriculum framework document for CTCs has been drafted, and will be published when it is finalised.

31. Mr. Barron

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a further statement about the financing of the city technology colleges.

Mrs. Rumbold

I refer the hon. Member to the answer my right hon. Friend gave earlier this afternoon to the hon. Member for Newham, North-West (Mr. Banks).

Mr. John Marshall

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a further statement about progress with regard to the city technology colleges.

39. Mr. Andrew MacKay

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a further statement on progress towards the setting up of city technology colleges.

Mrs. Rumbold

I refer my hon. Friends to the reply I gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Harrow, East (Mr. Dykes) on 20 June at column389. Since that date the CTC Trust has announced that Mr. Geoffrey Leigh, chairman of Allied London Properties, has made a personal donation towards the establishment of a CTC in Dartford.
