HC Deb 15 July 1988 vol 137 c376W
Dr. Thomas

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent communications he has had with officials of the United States Government concerning the release to Canada of confidential information on nuclear submarines obtained under the Anglo-American mutual defence agreement.

Mr. Eggar

The protection of confidential and other sensitive information on nuclear submarine propulsion, made available under the 1958 United States/United Kingdom agreement for co-operation in the uses of atomic energy for mutual defence purposes, is governed by articles VI and VII of that agreement, as amended.

Agreement was reached with the United States in 1987 for the release of the appropriate information to Canada and the United States Department of State publicly announced this on 28 October.
