HL Deb 13 July 1988 vol 499 c922WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many years a farmer must have grown cereal on a piece of land before he qualifies for a government grant to stop doing so.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Baroness Trumpington)

To qualify for set-aside payments, a piece of land must under Community rules have been under an arable crop—not necessarily cereals—in the base year 1st July 1987 to 30th June 1988 and must not have been converted to that crop from a non-arable crop or use between 1st January and 30th June 1988.
