HC Deb 12 July 1988 vol 137 c130W
Mr. John D. Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland when the streams between the townlands of Fishquarter and Rowreagh were last cleaned out; what steps have been taken to reduce flooding upstream of the crossing below the Kercubbin to Portaferry Road; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Viggers

There are two designated water courses in the townlands of Fishquarter and Rowreagh—the Rowreagh drain and the Rowreagh branch drain. Maintenance work was carried out on both these water courses by the Department of Agriculture in April this year. The responsible Minister, my noble Friend Lord Lyell, is not aware of a flooding problem such as the right hon. Gentleman describes, but if he would provide further details of the nature and location of the problem, the matter will be investigated.
