Whether the PWR 2 atomic reactor being developed for Trident submarines will be subject to United States control of any kind.
§ The Minister of State for Defence Procurement (Lord Trefgarne)There will be no US control of any kind over the second generation Pressurised Water Reactor, known as PWR 2, when it is deployed in new classes of British nuclear powered submarines, including the Vanguard Class. However, the provisions of the 1958 US/UK Agreement for Cooperation on the Uses of Atomic Energy for Defence Purposes will continue to apply to the release of nuclear propulsion technology to other countries.
