To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what is, for each year since 1974, the variation in trade surplus or trade deficit of the following countries(a) Belgium, (b) Canada, (c) Denmark, (d) France, (e) the Federal Republic of Germany, (f) Italy, (g) The Netherlands, (h) Norway, (i) Sweden, (j) the United States of America and (k) the United Kingdom, both in percentages and in pound sterling of 1988.

As the sign of the balance can vary from year to year, it is not appropriate to measure changes in the balance of trade in percentage terms. Data in constant value terms are not readily available.
