HC Deb 04 July 1988 vol 136 cc457-8W
54. Mr. Wareing

To ask the Minister for the Arts what educational and library services will be offered by the new Tate Gallery of the north in Liverpool.

Mr. Luce

The Tate Gallery, Liverpool, offers an extensive and flexible education service accessible to any school or group wanting to use the gallery for educational purposes. The schools programmes have been designed to respond to a full range of curriculum demands. A series of workshops will be offered each term for teachers. Throughout August there will be summer schools for sixth formers. From September a community trailer will tour local schools. The education department is currently developing links with the city college and Liverpool university's adult education programme. A special project on sculpture is planned for the autumn, linked to the gallery's three-year sculpture exhibition. Workshops for the disabled and those with special needs are also planned.

In addition, the education department provides a comprehensive range of literature for exhibition and organises lunchtime and evening lectures.

The gallery's reference library continues to grow and already provides users with a variety of books donated by publishers and an extensive range of catalogues. A video library with five screens is also available.
