To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many inspectors formed the staff complement of Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Pollution in(a) 1986, (b) 1987, and (c) the latest available date.

Mr. Moynihan

Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Pollution was formed on 1 April 1987, with a professional complement of 123 posts, of which 66 were for field inspectors. The current professional complement is 120, of which 69 are field inspectors.
