§ Mr. MaddenTo ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will name the company exporting mercury soaps from the United Kingdom, which has been served under the Consumer Protection Act 1987 with a prohibition order; and if he will state what subsequent action has been taken by his Department.
§ Mr. ButcherThe manufacturers of mercury soap on whom I served the prohibition notice were Shakespeare Soap and Beauty Products Ltd. of Stockport. At my Department's request, trading standards officers of Cheshire county council have since visited the firm to ensure that it has stopped supplying mercury soap for export.
