HC Deb 26 January 1988 vol 126 cc228-9W
Mr. McGrady

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will review the regulations relating to the establishment of amusement arcades in Northern Ireland containing fruit machines, slot machines and video machines, with a view to restricting their proliferation; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Needham

These regulations, which are contained in the Betting, Gaming, Lotteries and Amusements (Northern Ireland) Order 1985 and the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Northern Ireland) Order 1985, have been in operation only since 1986. I have no plans to review them until there has been adequate experience of their operation, and there is a clear indication of a need to do so.
