HC Deb 25 January 1988 vol 126 c29W
Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (1) how much finished vicuna wool has been imported into the United Kingdom in each of the past five years;

(2) how much finished vicuna cloth has been exported from the United Kingdom to Hong Kong in each of the past five years.

Mr. Alan Clark

Vicuna wool and vicuna cloth are not separately identified in the Overseas Trade Statistics. But there are two triune headings ("Of alpaca, llama, vicuna") in the OTS broken down into, not carded or combed (5302 9400) and carded or combed tops (5305 3100). In the new HS-based United Kingdom tariff the distinction is carried through only for the not carded or combed (510210 300). Imports under the two headings mentioned above for January to November 1987 (latest figures available) were:

£
5302 9400 79,000
5305 3100 1,665,000
