HC Deb 25 January 1988 vol 126 c29W
Mr. David Nicholson

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster how many trade missions went from the United Kingdom to Iran in 1977, 1978, 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1987.

Mr. Alan Clark

My Department provided financial support for six trade missions to Iran in 1977, five in 1978 and three in 1984. There were no dti-supported missions to Iran between 1985–87.

Mr. David Nicholson

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what representations have been made to him since 11 June 1987 about United Kingdom trade relations with Iran; and what are the prospects in 1988 of United Kingdom trade with Iran.

Mr. Alan Clark

No representations have been made since I 1 June. United Kingdom exports to Iran are likely to remain constrained by Iran's acute shortage of foreign exchange due to the war and reduced oil revenue.
