To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what has been the percentage change in vehicle mileage on roads in Scotland since 1982.

There has been a 15 per cent. increase in vehicle mileage on roads in Scotland between 1982 and 1986, the latest year for which figures are available. The figure relates to motorways, all-purpose trunk roads and principal local roads. Statistics are not held centrally for other classes of road.
