HC Deb 25 January 1988 vol 126 cc22-3W
Mr. Cartwright

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he intends to promote a tunnel under the River Thames instead of a bridge as part of the proposed extension of the A406 to the A2; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Channon

The Department's proposals for a bridge across the Thames and counter-proposals for a tunnel were examined at the public inquiry into the East London river crossing. I have recently received the inspector's report, which is at present being considered.
