To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on the future planned investment for the British Rail main line between London St. Pancras and Sheffield midland station.

The future planned investment for a particular line is a matter for the board. BR operates an HST service on this line and I understand that BR has just completed a £25 million programme to modernise the signalling on the Midland main line.
