HC Deb 25 January 1988 vol 126 cc12-3W
Mr. William Ross

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what sums have been expended in Northern Ireland by the European Economic Community and by Her Majesty's Government under the current antipoverty programmes under European Economic Community directive 85/8; what sums remain; when the programmes will end; and if he will seek an extension of funding for those programmes.

Mr. Needham

[holding answer 22 January 1988]: Two four-year action research projects have received funding as follows:

EC DHSS(NI)
£211,743 £173,246

Assuming satisfactory progress, it is expected that the following sums will be spent over the next two years:

EC DHSS(NI)
£220,609 £180,500

The anti-poverty programme will end on 30 November 1989.

It is for the European Commission to decide whether funding should be extended beyond that date.

Mr. William Ross

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will list the vehicles purchased and used in Northern Ireland and the cost of each of them under EEC directive 85/8 dealing with anti-poverty programmes.

Mr. Needham

[holding answer 22 January 1988]: The rural action project has purchased and is using two mobile advice and information units. They cost £20,196 and £21,908. The Belfast and Derry unemployment project does not own any vehicles.
