HC Deb 21 January 1988 vol 125 c780W
17. Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what proposals he has to combat juvenile crime.

Mr. John Patten

We have a wide range of initiatives in hand for combating crime and others are in preparation. With 15 as the peak age for offending, many of them are aimed at offences commonly committed by juveniles. The key to success lies in effective local co-operation involving both the relevant services and the wider community. The recent report of the working party on juvenile crime, set up by the Standing Conference on Crime Prevention, shows the way forward.
