To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland by how much capital spending on trunk roads in Scotland has increased since 1978–79.

Net capital expenditure on trunk roads in Scotland has increased by £30 million: from £65 million in 1987–79 to £95 million in 1986–87, the latest year for which final figures are available. Net outturn expenditure in 1987–88 is expected to be of the order of £110 million—a further increase of £15 million.
