§ Mr. LathamTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what progress has been made since 20 July 1987 in his contacts with the Government of Zambia regarding blocked personal remittances lawfully due to British subjects formerly resident in Zambia, but now living in the United Kingdom; and whether he will make a statement.
§ Mrs. ChalkerMy right hon. and learned Friend and I both raised the subject of blocked funds with Prime Minister Musokotwane of Zambia when he visited Britain in September. He regretted the situation and stated that individual cases of hardship would be considered. Mrs. Mavis Muyunda, Zambian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, reiterated this assurance to me in November last.
