Mr. Mullin

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, if he will list all the official delegations and Government-sponsored individuals and parties from Indonesia who visited the United Kingdom during 1987, stating in each case the purpose of the visit.

Mr. Eggar

The principal visits in 1987 were as follows:

February Dr. Radius Prawiro, Minister of Finance; to open the new offices of Bank Negara (State Bank) in London.

March Delegation from the Indonesian House of Representatives; to visit Parliament. Professor Marsono Taroepratjeko, Vice-Rector of the Institute of Technology in Bandung; for discussions with United Kingdom academics. Professor Dr. Mohammed Adna, Vice-Rector of the University of Gaja Mahadah in Jogjakarta; to develop links with Universities.

May Mr. Bamban Kesowo, Head of Legal Section of the Cabinet Secretariat; to discuss copyright matters. Mr. Rahradi Ramelan, Deputy Chairman, BPPT (Agency for Assessment and Application of Technology); to discuss science and technology with officials and companies. Professor Dr. Harsja Bactiar, Head of Office of Educational and Cultural Planning, Ministry of Education and Culture; for familiarisation.

July Dr. B. J. Habibie, Minister of Research and Technology; for discussions with Ministers, and with United Kingdom companies involved in aircraft manufacture, shipping and heavy engineering. Mr. Sulema Wiriadidaja, Technical Director of P T PAL (Indonesian Shipbuilding Organisation); for discussions with United Kingdom companies.

November Chief of Staff of Indonesian Army, General Tri Sutrisno; for discussions with the Chief of the General Staff. Professor Molejono, Rector of the University of Diponegoro at Samarang; to visit Universities. Professor Amran Halim, Rector of University of Stiwijaya; to visit United Kingdom Universities.

April Mr. W. E. Mason, Deputy Under-Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture; to discuss food policy and regulations.

May Vice-Chief of Defence Staff; for discussions on defence matters, as part of a South-East Asian tour.

September Lord Glenarthur, Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs; for discussions with the Indonesian Government.

October Mr. Christopher Patten MP, Minister for Overseas Development; for discussions on the United Kingdom aid programme. Mr. Tim Sainsbury MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Defence Procurement; for discussions on defence equipment matters.

November United Kingdom delegation to the Anglo-Indonesian joint working group on economic co-operation.
