To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what are the guidelines given to district health authorities which introduce neighbourhood nursing schemes; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Newton

Guidance to health authorities on the organisation of community nursing services, including the introduction of neighbourhood nursing schemes, was issued last November in health circular HC(87)29.

Mr. O'Brien

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what financial assistance is given by his Department to district health authorities which introduce neighbourhood nursing schemes; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Newton

Regional health authorities are responsible for allocating resources to district health authorities. It is for individual authorities to fund service developments from within the resources available to them.
