To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he plans to amend the Natural Mineral Water Regulations 1985 so as to bring them in line with the standards set in European Community Directive No. 80/778.

The Natural Mineral Waters Regulations 1985 implement Council Directive 80/777/EEC on the exploitation and marketing of natural mineral waters. It would not be appropriate to amend the regulations in the way suggested because officially recognised natural mineral waters are specifically excluded from the scope of Council Directive 80/778/EEC.
