HC Deb 18 January 1988 vol 125 c534W
Mrs. Peacock

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make further amendments to the Milk (Special Designation) Regulation to require universal pasteurisation of milk in England and Wales, in the light of the recent communicable disease report showing the comparative incidence of disease associated with milk and dairy products in England and Wales as compared with Scotland.

Mr. Donald Thompson

Sales of untreated milk are already subject to strict controls. The incidence of milk-borne disease associated with such sales is kept under review but I do not consider that these figures require a change in our existing policy, which seeks to achieve a balance between the health risks associated with untreated milk and the need to preserve consumer choice.
