HC Deb 18 January 1988 vol 125 c500W
Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what information he has about the closure since May 1987 of the fast breeder reactor at Creys-Malville, east of Lyons, France; whether it has any implications for the United Kingdom; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Michael Spicer

The French Government have announced that they have agreed, in principle, that Superphenix can be restarted subject to studies being done on how to load the reactor core without using the fuel storage vessel. Discussions have confirmed that there are no implications for the United Kingdom, since the Dounreay prototype fast reactor does not possess the design feature which caused the problem in Superphenix.
