HC Deb 18 January 1988 vol 125 c503W
Mr. Ieuan Wyn Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what progress has been made in promoting combined heat and power schemes since the Energy Act 1983; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Morrison

Since 1983, the Government have provided £750,000 towards the costs of further studies on major urban CHP schemes by consortia in Belfast, Edinburgh and Leicester. The Leicester consortium has published a report on its findings and has formed a company, Leicester Energy Limited, to take the work forward. Reports from Belfast and Edinburgh are expected shortly.

Under the Department's energy efficiency demonstration scheme, £3 million has been committed to the support of 22 industrial and commercial projects. My Department has also provided £102,000 under the energy efficiency survey scheme, which provides grants of up to a maximum of £10,000 towards 50 per cent. of the costs of employing independent consultants for feasibility studies of non-domestic CHP schemes.
