To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will list in theOfficial Report those areas of his departmental responsibility which extend to Scotland.

The Education (Fees and Awards) Act 1983 extends to Scotland; the regulations made under it by the Secretary of State for Education and Science apply so far as universities are concerned to Scotland as well as to England and Wales.

My right hon. Friend also make grants available to the eight Scottish universities on the advice of the University Grants Committee.

My right hon. Friend has responsibility for the funding of research through the science budget which includes expenditure by the research councils in Scotland.
