HC Deb 13 January 1988 vol 125 cc283-4W
Mr. Boyes

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he intends to monitor the experiment in Canada of cars driving at all times with headlights lit; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

The Canadian authorities have said that they will monitor the effect of their recent law which requires all new motor vehicles to be fitted with daytime running lights. These lights may be in several forms, but they are required to light up automatically whenever the engine is running. We will be interested in the results.
