HC Deb 13 January 1988 vol 125 c317W
61. Mr. Dykes

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will make a statement on the implications for the areas of his Department's responsibilities of the latest development in the takeover attempts for the British Caledonian airline.

Mr. Maude

The proposed merger between British Airways and British Caledonian has been investigated by the Monopolies and Mergers Commission, which concluded that the acquisition, having regard to proposals as developed by BA during the course of the inquiry, might be expected not to operate against the public interest. My right hon. and noble Friend the Secretary of State has made it clear that he expects BA's proposals to be implemented in full.
