HC Deb 12 January 1988 vol 125 c220W
Mr. John

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what assessment he has made of the implications for his campaigns against drinking and driving of the advertising material from Chauffeurplan Ltd. which offers to provide a chauffeur service for disqualified drivers.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

We view with distaste insurance schemes which provide alternative road transport for those disqualified from driving following conviction for road traffic offences, even though such schemes cannot adequately compensate for loss of entitlement to drive. We shall look again at such insurance schemes in the light of the report of the review of road traffic law, which we expect very shortly.

Companies or department stores considering circulating details of such schemes, may wish to consider carefully the number of complaints which we have received about such proposals.
