§ Mr. MellorDuring my visit to Israel and the occupied territories I had useful and constructive discussions with a wide range of Israelis and Palestinians. I took every opportunity to register our concern at abuses of human rights and violations of international law in the occupied territories and to reiterate our view that an international conference offers the best way forward to a peaceful settlement of the Arab-Israeli conflict.
