To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what has been the total level of regional aid granted to the clothing industry in the Blyth and Cramlinton employment areas since 1975 by regional development grant, regional selective assistance, and northern selective assistance.

Mr. Atkins

Identifiable regional aid granted to the clothing and knitwear industry in Blyth valley local authority district since 1975 amounted to £1.1 million. However, this does not include aid under the original regional development grant scheme for which sufficiently detailed information is not available.

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what grants have come from the European Economic Community since 1979 for the clothing industry in the Blyth and Cramlinton employment areas.

There have been no grants from the European Community since 1979 for the clothing industry companies in this area.

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what proportion of total grant aid to the Blyth and Cramlinton employment areas grant aid to the clothing industry has represented since 1979.

Since 1979, identifiable grant aid to the clothing and knitwear industry in the Blyth Valley local authority district was 8 per cent. of total aid granted by my Department to the area under the same schemes.

Sufficiently detailed information is not available for the original regional development grant scheme.
