§ Mr. Adley
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list, for every EEC country, the vehicle excise duty or its equivalent, for(a) a 1,000 cc private car and (b) a 50-seat coach.

§ Mr. Peter Bottomley
In the United Kingdom, the vehicle excise duty for all private cars is £100, and for a 50-seat coach £84. Information is not available in a comparable form for other EEC states, some of which tax vehicles by reference to unladen weight or horse power rather than engine or seat capacity.
