HC Deb 29 February 1988 vol 128 cc389-90W
Mr. Dalyell

To ask the Prime Minister what steps she has taken to ensure that she is kept fully informed at all stages in future cases where an author or publisher approaches Her Majesty's Government through an intermediary to seek clearance for the publication of material about the security services; and if she will make a statement.

The Prime Minister

Officials are aware of the appropriate steps to take in such cases.

Mr. Sedgemore

To ask the Prime Minister (1) if she has any plans to introduce legislation to legalise wrongdoing by members of the security and intelligence services when such actions are undertaken in the defence of the realm;

(2) if she has any plans to introduce legislation to legalise covert invasions of privacy by the security and intelligence services when such actions are undertaken in the defence of the realm; and if she will make a statement.

The Prime Minister

I have nothing to add to the reply given by my right hon. Friend the Home Secretary on 29 January, at column397, to my hon. Friend the Member for Hertfordshire, West (Mr. Jones).
