HC Deb 29 February 1988 vol 128 c389W
Mr. Bermingham

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many serving adult prisoners in England and Wales were granted temporary release for attendance on a community-based employment or offence-related course during 1986 and 1987.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

Records of the number of prisoners temporarily released under prison rule 6 are not held centrally, and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.

Mr. Bermingham

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is planning any increase in the use of temporary release courses for adult prisoners in England and Wales; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

Sentenced adult prisoners may be granted temporary release for educational purposes. We have no immediate plans to increase the use of temporary release in this area.
