To ask the Secretary of State for Defence (1) how many contracts or agreements for research and development have currently been placed directly or indirectly with United Kingdom universities and other educational institutions by the Atomic Weapons Research Establishment at Burghfield; what is their total value; and with which United Kingdom universities or other such education institutions they have been placed;

(2) how many contracts or agreements for research and development have currently been placed directly or indirectly with United Kingdom universities and other educational institutions by the Atomic Weapons Research Establishment at Llanishen; what is their total value; and with which United Kingdom universities or other such educational establishments they have been placed;

(3) how many contracts or agreements for research and development have currently been placed directly or indirectly with United Kingdom universities and other educational institutions by the Atomic Weapons Research Establishment at Foulness; what is their total value; and with which United Kingdom universities or other such educational institutions they have been placed;

(4) how many contracts or agreements for research and development have currently been placed directly or indirectly with United Kingdom universities and other educational institutions by the Atomic Weapons Research Establishment at Aldermaston; what is the total value and with which United Kingdom universities or other such educational institutions they have been placed.

The Atomic Weapons Establishment has currently 41 contracts or agreements placed with 23 United Kingdom universities and other educational institutions, all arising from the work at Aldermaston. Their value is £2 million. It is not our policy to give further details of these arrangments.
