HC Deb 24 February 1988 vol 128 c232W
40. Mr. Bill Walker

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what increase there has been in Scottish manufacturing productivity since 1979; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lang

Between 1979 and the first half of 1987 manufacturing output per employee in Scotland increased by an average of 5.6 per cent. per annum. Over this period, Scottish manufacturing productivity growth was higher than in any of the seven major OECD economies.
