§ Mr. GristDirect central Government support for sport and recreation in Wales is provided by way of grant-in-aid to the Sports Council for Wales. From 1979–80 to 1986–87, which is the last year for which outturn figures are available a total of £22.5 million was paid in grant. In the same period central Government support of £4.3 million
