HC Deb 22 February 1988 vol 128 c7W
54. Mr. Wigley

To ask the Attorney-General if the Lord Chancellor will take steps to ensure that solicitors, when attending their clients at remand centres, have their costs fully met under the legal aid schemes; and if he will make a statement.

The Attorney-General

Solicitors who attend clients at remand centres are entitled to their costs under a criminal legal aid order provided that the determining officer who considers their claim is satisfied that the attendance was reasonable. The solicitor is allowed either his own reasonable costs or the costs reasonably incurred in instructing a solicitor local to the remand centre to attend on his behalf.
