HC Deb 22 February 1988 vol 128 cc46-7W
Mr. Butler

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services whether his Department regards the administration of intramuscular injections by trained nurses as part of a nurse's ordinary duties; and what instructions his Department gives to hospital administrators if nursing officers insist that it is not.

Mr. Newton

The administration of intramuscular injections is part of the duties of a trained nurse and this skill is taught as part of basic training. This is not a subject on which the Department would normally give advice. Any disagreement would be a matter for local management to resolve.
