Mr. John Marshall

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how often the Council of Ministers has discussed the location of the seat of the European Parliament during the past 10 years.

Mrs. Chalker

The conclusions of the European Council in the Netherlands in March 1981 record thatthe Heads of State and of Government decided unanimously to confirm the status quo in regard to the provisional places of work of the European institutions".

There has been no other discussion.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what estimates the Council of Ministers has made of the cost of its failure to determine a single seat for the work of the European Parliament.

Mrs. Chalker

No such estimate has been made.
