HC Deb 18 February 1988 vol 127 c740W
Mr. Steinberg

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if, for the last five years for which figures are available, he will give the number of public service vehicle drivers taken ill on duty, whether or not an accident resulted.

Mr. David Mitchell

This information is not available.

Mr. Steinberg

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport whether he will seek to provide medical examination of public service vehicle drivers every two years after the age of 50 years, and yearly beyond the age of 60 years; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. David Mitchell

No. We have no reason to believe the present arrangements are not effective in identifying drivers whose medical condition makes them unfit to hold a licence. I shall be glad to hear from the hon. Member if he has evidence to the contrary.

Mr. Steinberg

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list the regulations which govern the form and content of the training course and examination which precede the issue of a public service vehicle licence.

Mr. David Mitchell

The requirements of the public service vehicle driving test are set out in the Public Service Vehicles (Drivers' Licences) Regulations 1985. The form and content of training courses are not prescribed in regulations.
