To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he expects to announce his response to Lord Colville's report on the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he has any plans to seek to amend the Prevention of Terrorism Act 1984 in order to assist in combating terrorism.

I refer my hon. Friends to what I said during the debate on the renewal of the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act 1984.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department on how many occasions during 1987 he employed his powers to authorise an extension of detention under the Prevention of Terrorism Act 1984.

Mr. Hurd

In 1987 I authorised 41 extensions of detention under the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act 1984.
